Victoria Beckham SS11

Congratulations to the Beckhams this morning on the announcement of Victoria’s pregnancy. So, does this mean we might see some maternity wear making it’s way into her next collection?

You might think this is a tenuous link (i’ve been accused on a previous post of jumping on a topic just to get page views – not true, I write about what i’m interested in and am generally inspired by what’s going on around me); it’s not. I spent the weekend reding through my multitude of fashion mags and the pick of the SS11 crop. One of those collections that I love is that of Victoria Beckham.

And on hearing the news this morning, the first thing that sprang to mind was whether she’d venture into creating a range of maternity wear. Victoria’s collections are always very clean and sleek and actually, I think the style lends itself well to a maternity line.

For SS11, she’s done a great job again. And whilst she need need to change anything to be considered part of the minimalist trend we’re going to be seeing a lot of, she’s also got hints of the 70s, romantic and oriental themes that appeared on the catwalks as well as those bright flashes of colour.

While fashitonistas and fans alike will be keeping their eyes peeled to see what the lady herself wears during her pregnancy, I think she should go ahead and style some of her own creations. I think Mrs Beckham could do a lot to bring some grace back to that pregnancy glow which has been lacking in many maternity collections. Wearing a tight fitting dress to show off your bump rarely looks flattering and can’t seriously be comfortable? And if she does go ahead and design her own range, her creative ideas will filter down into the high street giving more choice to those who can’t afford the catwalk.

Victoria Beckham’s Spring / Summer 2011 dress collection is available to view online now at www.victoriabeckham.com and this year she’s also ventured into the realm of handbags with a very ‘classic’ line in crocodile, calf and buffalo.

The website could maybe use a little work though. You know where I am Mrs B…
