tomb raider trilogy.

Wow. It’s been a busy day today. Just jumped online and the first thing I see is Tomb Raider Trilogy trending all over the place (alongside Marylin Monroe!) so I thought i’d better check it out.

So what’s the story? Well, PlayStation announced a while ago that the hugely successful Tomb Raider series is to be rebooted – gotta love buzzwords – by Crystal Dynamics (the original was developed by Core Design and published by Eidos) exclusively for PS3.

Today, the guys at PlayStation announced they’d be releasing a remastered Tomb Raider Trilogy for the PS3 in HD, to keep those hardcore fans ticking over in the meantime and obviously, get the market piqued handily in time for the new release. Trilogy will include remastered version of Anniversary, Legend and Underworld (the latter formerly only released as a download for PS3 on the Playstation network, the original was developed for PS2).

Checking out the online chatter, it seems that while this is big news, are lot of fans are displeased. Many hoped that the ‘Trilogy’ referred to remastered versions of the original games, not subsequent games that were, whilst still playable, not quite as good as that first hit. And the hardcore archaelogical adventurers have already downloaded Underworld from PSN, making this money down the drain.

Still the level of interest is such that it should be a massive hit; the game will released on 22nd March 2011.

Writing this and seeing all the Tomb Raider nostalgia has given me a good clip round the ear though to remind me about something i’ve been meaning to write for a while, the use of models – and indeed modelling careers launched by the games industry- and the use of fashion icons within games.

Just as an FYI then, in case you didn’t know or are new to this sort of thing, British model Nell McAndrew was the original body model for the first iteration of Lara Croft, it’s what skyrocketed her into the public eye and got her on the from of Playboy (and, uh, then sacked as Lara Croft because of it).

Ask any 25-35 year old male about this and they’ll tell you why it’s a big deal and talk all about Lady Lara’s *amazing* assets. So, more of that later, when I get chance to give the artcile the attention it needs.

More CES talk coming shortly as well. Busy busy busy…
