my darklyng.

I just came across this article by Katie Roiphe on the Hollywood University blog, it’s from back in August this year, but it has some very interesting social commentary on teenage use of Facebook.

The content itself covers off two points – one, the development of a serialised novel, ‘My Darklyng’, written by Lauren Mechling and Laura Moser, the twist being that the plot unfolds across Twitter and Facebook as well as in standard text.

To do this, fictional characters have been set up on social networks, and Katie Roiphe, a teacher at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University, points out that to an extent, all teenagers’ Facebook personas are fictional – to an extent at least. This is the second, and I think, much more important, observation from the article.

It’s an interesting read, go take a look.
