all walks beyond the catwalk.

London Fashion Week kicked off yesterday, and happily it started with an effort to overcome the standard size zero waif-like woman-slash-teenage-boy look that usually treads the catwalk.

Supported by the British Fashion Council, All Walks Beyond the Catwalk isn’t just aiming to get more ‘normal’ sized models treading the runway, it’s also about complete diversification to reflect everyone’s individuality – and that means fatter, thinner, older, shorter, different ethinicities and backgrounds.

The campaign kicked off with a shoot by celebrated god of fashion photography, Rankin, shooting nine deliberately ‘diverse’ models (via Guardian online). The models, including a number of plus-size beauties and one 81-year old, were dressed by the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Matthew Williamson, Hussein Chayalan, Stella McCartney and Alice Temperley.

Check out the All Walks website (http://allwalks.org/) for more information – and let’s keep our fingers crossed that we see some diversification on the runway over the coming week…
